The problem is if no other club goes for him (particularly due to his price tag) he may feel that the club have forced him to stay by over pricing him. He also knows that if he gets his move to a CL team then he will most likely get paid more than £70k per week.

Personally I would rather have another player rather than an unhappy Berbatov. We have already seen what he can be like when he doesn't give a shit. If he is only likely to be playing for Spurs next season because he couldn't get a move then fuck him. I want players at the club who actually WANT to play for the club and WANT to help the club achieve that long overdue greatness!

Saying that, if he does have a change of heart and wants to stay and achieve legend status then bring it on !!!!

first of all y do people keep saying i would rather a diffrent player than a non-caring berbs but this season he didnt care and got 23 goals and 15 assists plus it isnt possible for us to bring in a player half as gd as berbs. secondly if he does stay when he would have rathera move then i personally think he would be up for the challange with players like gio, luka and keane in the team next seaon we will create even moe scoring oppurtunies for him and i think he will see that and start playing not just walk about like he don't care after all if he wants cl footie y cant he try get it with us

Interesting that people think if Ronaldo leaves, Berba will be the man they want.
The two have absolutely no relation to each other.
IF Fergie goes for Berbs, it will have NOTHING to do with Ronaldo leaving and much more to do with any potential 'not signing' of Tevez.
In fact, I can see him breaking the bank for Benzema if he was going to sign an outlandishly priced striker...we won't sell Berbs within this country for less than $30mill, and I think it prices him out of a UK transfer.

He won't replace Ronaldo thfc. But Manchester United will make a lot of money for the sale are are more likely to splash cash on Berbatov then before.

I never even considered the ramifications of a Ronaldo move to MAdrid (in as far as it effecting us) but the possibility is a real (no pun intended) concern.

I think if we can keep Berbatov it will be the best business we can do over the summer. However if he does move on the added creativity in midfield will soften the blow.

Firstly, people probably keep saying this because that is their opinion. Also, I did not state that he did not care last season. I love Berbs as much as anyone and thought he had an excellent season. I did say that we saw what an uncaring Berbs was like which, IMO, was for a short period last season before MJ left. His season got much better after Ramos arriving.

Secondly, why do people keep saying that we could not get a player half as good as Berbatov. If we were able to get Berbatov then clearly we ARE capable of getting players of his calibre. Berbs is a great player but he is not the greatest in the world. If you feel that it is impossible for Spurs to buy players half as good as Berbatov then I would imagine that your expectations for next season are not very high.

I agree 100%. We were perhaps a stepping stone for Berbatov and in the short term (without Champions League football ourselves) maybe we have to settle for being a stepping-stone club. But there are plenty of top-class international players bubbling under the surface (Modric, for example) who need a stone to step on and want first-team football while they do it. It's then up to us to meet their expectations long-term to keep them. So far we haven't been able to, but hopefully it won't be like that forever. Point is, Destination Spurs remains a rosy one, all the more now Ramos is at the helm.

That's 'only' about £16m!

Did you mean ££££?

Ive been away the last 2 weeks and am just catching up on the site while waiting at Bangkok airport. So looking like berbs may stay, dos santos signs for pocket change; is this some sort of elaborate pisstake you guys are trying to pull?

May I just remind everyone of the length of contract we have with berbs in place? Another 2+2 years. An improved contract to me sounds like levy is softening the blow a little - telling him he's staying but getting a load more cash.

I'm not afraid that if Manure sell Ronaldo, they'll buy Berba for 35 million. Let them do so for they're not the same without CR; they'll be weakened. On the other hand, I'm sure that with another 35 million, we can strengthen the team to the extent that we'll come out stronger despite losing Berba.

I was thinking about this. I still think the work rooney did off the ball fro Ronaldo gets wpoefully underrated. Utd were very good at breaking and closing down opposition and on the ball through midfield but they could definitely have benefited from the ball sticking upfront more oftern and some ariel presence too. I'm not saying C.Ronaldo wasn't their best player but there really are more ways to skin a cat and Berb, Rooney and tevez in the front three would be excellent.
I would fully expect UTD to challange on all fronts and you'd see the 42 goals CR scored shared out more between the other 3, especially Rayne Wooney.

On other cheaper/younger striking options, this is true... but I still think berbatovs ability is greater than most of those. Some of the things he does is unique and for the extra money would be worth it.

IF Berbatov leaves WHL...we may just 'pack up' and become hermits, or follow Scum! It! will be the 'icing' on our, amateurish style, cake! We will have fulfilled our promise as beong the perfect feeder club for our Manc masters! Is that was we want? Loosing Berby to Madrid, Barca, or Milan would be bad enough but to 'slit' our own throats by selling him to our MAIN Premiership rivals is ludicrous, in any soccer or other manual of greatness! We, at THFC have to make a stand if we are ever expected to 'advance' to where we see ourselves in the future.
Ofcourse, that is on the assumption that Levi and Co are 'of the mind' that we are CL material....and on that score...I sometimes wonder where they see us! A proven Prem Berby is far more important to us than a 'promising' De Santos or Mandric and Co. COYS

Ronaldo will not be leaving ManYoo this year.

Manure will never have a better opportunity to get that kind of money for Ronaldo. 75 million would go a long way towards clearing their debt and still provide money for some excellent replacements. Football is a business and only a fool would turn down 75m for one player.

The Glazers have said that they would rather he rot on the bench but this would only serve to wipe out that 75m valuation.

Ultimately, if Ronaldo wants to go then now is THE best time to sell him and I truly believe the chances are now quite high that he will be playing in Madrid next season.
